Necessary Lies:
Newly married, Jane seeks what most other women have avoided, a career.
However, life as a social worker is poles apart from what she supposes. Out in the rural community, Jane confronts intense deprivation that is worlds apart from the middle-class life she is used to.
Working with the fifteen-year-old Ivy, it’s not long before Jane unearths a dreadful secret. She finds she is propelled into an ethical quandary that puts her job on the line, jeopardizes her marriage, and in the long run, affects the destiny of Ivy and her family forever.
Eventually, Jane is obliged to take radical decisions, and soon there is no way back.
Necessary Lies is persuasive reading. It is a first-rate story with appropriate historical settings, is well written, and very absorbing. It is easy to connect with the central characters, and understand their predicaments, agonies and weaknesses.
You will probably find this story difficult to put down once started. Necessary Lies keeps you craving more, and eager to find what happens next. A good page turner.
